Easy Grip Fermentation Lids
Let the Lids do the work for you!
We began fermenting as a way to powerfully add probiotics back into our bodies after a family member’s bout with illness. But like you, we struggled with the difficulty of daily checking our ferments, burping the lids and dealing with mold. We thought “Wouldn’t it be great if the Lids did the work for us?”
So Easy Grip Fermenter Lids were born!
How do Easy Grip Fermenting Lids make your Life Easy?
We wanted to make your life easier in the kitchen so we designed the following features into Easy Grip.
Easy release tabs
No need to strain so much releasing a stuck lid. Instead of a large tab with sharp edges, we added 4 ergonomically shaped tabs with smooth rounded contact points. These are spaced in a way that you will have multiple contact points. Usually a thumb, two fingers and the inside of your hand will all make contact with the lid.
Rounded upper edge
No more discomfort in your hands when trying to open the lids. Sometimes when fermenting, a lid can become difficult to open. Some others have been designed with one large tab or other designs to help. But the top edge on the outside still has a sharp 90 degree angle. When opening a stuck lid, those edges can be uncomfortable. Our testing group we surveyed over the 8 month development time commented on this frequently. So we put a rounded upper edge on our lids.
No Need to Burp the Lids
The center valve does the work for you. Pressure is created inside the fermenting jar when carbon dioxide is released by the fermenting process. The soft, center valve will allow these gases to escape while preventing oxygen from entering your ferment.
Center Valve Raised up away from Brine
No mess. Brine escaping or being pulled up into the pump can be messy. We raised our center valve up in a unique way so that it is farther away fro the brine. When you do use the oxygen extraction pump, this further prevent brine from being pulled up into the pump. The result is less chance of any pump damage over time.
Protected Date Indicator Tab Removes Need for Paper Labels
Using paper labels for remembering ferment date is a thing of the past. The Easy Grip fermenting lid has a built in date setting ring. Simply move the indicator the the date the ferment was started and set the jar in the cupboard. Remembering a date is that simple.
But accidentally bumping a date indicator is also a hassle. So we have it slightly below the outer surface of the lid. But it is not sunk so low that it requires more work to set. Having it recessed also prevents the tab from being cracked or broken by another kitchen object.
Easily Reseal and Remove Oxygen after Taste Testing
Do you test your ferment during the fermenting process? We often do. The Oxygen Extraction Pump allows you to re seal the jar and remove the oxygen even after testing. During the initial few days of a ferment, copious amounts of carbon dioxide are created. This seals the lid and removes the oxygen.
However, if you test during the last few days of the process, not as much of those gases are produced to re seal the jar. Just a couple pumps on the extraction pump will re seal the jar for you. There is no need to pump more than two times. Just one or two pumps will re pressurize the jar.
We have provided a useful Easy Grip User Guide with some good basic tips for first time users. It is a good resource for those considering purchasing Easy Grip. It is also handy for existing owners who may want an online version of their User Guide which was included in their purchase.
What can You Ferment with Easy Grip Lids?
Giardiniera
Giardiniera is a mixture of celery, cauliflower, carrots, and some other colorful veggies. It is commonly made in either a traditional or spicy variety often referred to as “hot mix.” Often used as a condiment, it has become a very popular probiotic food. Some national and regional varieties vary slightly.
Italian giardiniera can be called sottaceti which means “under vinegar.” The Chicago variety is often made spicy hot and even served on pizzas.
Kimchi
Kimchi is a traditional Korean side dish made from fermented vegetables including napa cabbage and seasonings.
Sauerkraut
Sauerkraut is a German dish of shredded cabbage fermented in a lacto-fermentation environment. It has a long shelf life and is a very well known probiotic food.
What is fermentation?
Fermenting vegetables is the process that transforms cabbage into probiotic-rich sauerkraut or kimchi, cucumbers into pickles and even grapes into wine. The process has been used for centuries to extend the shelf life of food even without the use of modern refrigeration. It increases the ability of the body to access and utilize the nutrients in the food. And it multiplies the beneficial bacteria called probiotics in the fermented foods.\
You benefit from more healthy bacteria than you would receive by merely taking probitoic capsules. And your body recognizes the as part of the foods you eat.
We can show you how to increase the amount of probiotics even more than what is normally found in store purchased fermented food.
You love to ferment, our Easy Grip Lids make it easy for you!
